Clinicial Track Admission Requirements

Requirements for Clinical Guest and Clinical Affiliate

1. General Information

As a Guest of the Angle Society, you will have clinical or academic requirements that must meet the standards of the Angle Society. Please do not be deterred by these challenges. Our group is a unique blend of clinicians and academicians who will be helpful to you in all aspects of your admissions process.

There are two tracks whereby Guest and Affiliate Members may initiate the process to regular membership:

1-Clinical track.

2-Academic track.

The classification chosen usually reflects the individual’s primary occupation (i.e., full-time academician or full-time clinician practitioner).

A Guest is allowed to choose their entrance track regardless of their primary occupation as a clinician or academician.

An affiliate must choose the same track they pursued the guest year, or they may request to return as a guest in the alternate track prior to starting their Affiliate years.

2. Responsibility of the sponsors.

Initiate the approval of the guests with the Executive Committee 6 months before the annual society meeting.

The Clinical Affiliate MUST submit the selected cases to their sponsor(s) and obtain confirmation that they may be submitted to the clinical Exam Committee.

3. Clinical Guest Requirements

As a guest on the clinical track, you must present to the Examining Committee and the membership a completed, moderately difficult case.

Your selected case will be evaluated by the Examining Committee and presented to the membership as a criterion for your advancement to affiliate status in accordance with the meeting format.

This process involves not only an evaluation of your clinical expertise, but also an opportunity to begin dialogue between you and the Society. You will find the exchange of treatment ideas between you and other members of the Society a valuable learning experience. As you progress through the Affiliate membership process, we encourage you to make use of this opportunity to interact with the members of the Examining Committee and the Active Members of the Society as they review your cases on display.

Case selection should be from the criteria listed under “Affiliates – Clinical Track”.  Please note, no surgical cases or two-phase treatments allowed. If the patient was treated with two phases, ONLY the comprehensive phase can be presented.

This presentation must be according to the case requirements and format as described below.  Case resume write-up should be done with the Power Point Standardized Case Template. (put link here)

Case resume write-up should be done with the Power Point Standardized Case Resume.

Guest Cases must be finished within 3 years prior to the Guest’s attendance.  Final records must be taken within 3 months of appliance removal.

Cases treated during residency are not permitted.

A case that had previous comprehensive orthodontic treatment (retreatment) are not permitted.

Progress records should be presented if available.

The case will be graded with the same criteria as explained in the section “Specific areas to be evaluated by examining committee” in the webpage https://angleeast.org/case-presentation-requirements/.  Please pay close attention to these criteria – you may assess the case in advance and gain insight as to how the committee will view your case.

4. Clinical Affiliate Requirements

The Guest on the Clinical Track will be expected to demonstrate their clinical expertise to the Examining Committee and the Membership by presenting a moderately difficult case that has been completed within three years of the meeting date.

The treatment should be representative of your diagnostic ability and demonstrate your clinical ability showing your finest quality of care. We expect all cases to be well treated. Poorly finished cases, even though they may be difficult, are not accepted. All treatment including occlusal intercuspation should be finished completely. This requirement includes second molars. This is an opportunity to show us what you can do. The Examining Committee shall evaluate your case and a member of the Committee shall meet with you and your sponsor to present the Committee’s findings.

An electronic draft version of the written case Power Point must be sent to the examining committee chair, copied to their sponsors at least 30 days prior to the meeting
